More for 2011

More of what I'd wish for, pray for, hope for, dream of in 2011.

• Fox News would be forced to report factually or remove the word "News" from their name
• The people at Fox News would understand that they are encouraging nuts to do harm to others and halt the hateful rhetoric and bald-faced lies immediately
• Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh would put themselves in the places of those they vilify, realize how much damage they do, repent and begin being constructive
• Gun worshipping nutcases would understand that people without guns are unlikely to shoot others so some sort of control would help everyone
• People who support Palin would grow up and see that she is a disgrace to real Republicans
• Real Republicans would rise up and take the party back

• Every bit of property, regardless of owner or purpose, would pay taxes to support public services such as fire and police protection
• Students and employees would be allowed to fail and learn to deal with reality
• Jerky movements on TV and movies would be eliminated so kids learn to have an attention span of more than 2 seconds

to be continued

Great Turtle Race

From National Geographic:
Eleven leatherback sea turtles are taking part in the Great Turtle Race, speeding from foraging grounds in the frigid waters of Canada to nesting beaches on the sun-soaked shores of the Caribbean. The turtles are tagged with state-of-the-art satellite tracking devices that allow us to follow their incredible 3,700-mile (6,000-kilometer) journey.

Follow their progress on the Great Turtle Race website.

Buzzard Day

Sigh and sorry. I missed it this year. On 15 March the buzzards return to Hinckley, Ohio. It has become a big deal locally. We learned about this annual celebration in the 60's when some of us in the office were looking for a cause to celebrate (party) and found a calendar with all sorts of offbeat holidays not recognized by the general population.

A curiosity

Sometimes I mix an egg with some milk, heat it slightly then give it to the cats. Tonight the stuff they didn't lap up froze almost immediately. When it is frozen, it is almost transparent. The next time a feline comes around I nuke it and it turns white again. I wonder how, why, etc.

No degrees of separation

There has been coverage of a redhead on the TV news this week. I will not mention her name or what she has done. I will only say that somewhere I have a photo of her at age 2 or so. My brother at 3 liked her red hair. I think the news footage of her is a bit old as she didn't look that young the last time I saw her few years ago at Chautauqua. We never know who will show up where or in what circumstances later in life. Like my high school classmate Roger Ailes, Chairman of the Fox Television Stations Group.
