Organ dedication, 3:00 pm, Sunday, 9 June 2013

The Dedicatory Recital
The Ahlborn-Galanti Organ
The Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross
51 W Main Street
North East, Pennsylvania
Sunday, 9 June 2013 at 3:00 pm

At 3 o’clock on Sunday, June 9, Washington, DC area organist Lynn Allen Dean will dedicate new Ahlborn-Galanti organ, just installed, at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross in North East, PA. Lynn is a friend of the parish who worships at Holy Cross when he comes to North East on vacation each summer. The rest of the time he is organist and director of music ministries at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulton, Maryland.
Lynn holds degrees in Music Performance and Liturgical Music from the Catholic University of America and the Oblate College, and has also studied at Westminster Choir College and in Paris, France. He has played for services and in recital at the National Cathedral and many other locations. Lynn lives in Olney, MD with his wife Mary Kay; they have two grown daughters and a pug puppy.
We are delighted that Lynn has agreed to play for us as we dedicate the new organ in honor of Harold Page, who has led us in worship for so long, and in gratitude to Neal Durchman, who has masterminded the project from the beginning. Lynn’s program is designed to exploit many of the vast possibilities of our new organ. It features music from many centuries, and opportunities for the congregation to join him in hymns. We hope that everyone will come and celebrate this great day. +

Rodgers 990 organ for sale

This is a 1960ish transistor 990 with wooden keys. It has been in continuous use since new, including 19 May 2013. It is being replaced with a new organ. As you can see by the photos (please excuse a spot or two on the camera lens), it has been lovingly cared for. I can see no damage and I didn't even dust it. The speakers are NOT included. The console could easily be used for a new instrument. Buyer to remove. Make an offer. If interested, please contact The Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross, 51 W Main St, North East, PA 16428 (just east of Erie), 814.725.4679, office at holycrossne period org.

Spring is sprung, we hope

The first coltsfoot of 2013. The only one in sight.

These croci came with the cottage I tore down almost 40 years ago. I didn't see them last year and wondered if they had finally died. There used to be one white one but I haven't seen it for several years.

Friday cat blogging on Tuesday - updated

I can't have a cat in the house because I am deathly allergic to them. But PuddyTat has been so needy that I allowed her in the house today. She doesn't know how to use a litterbox but I gave her one by the front door and hope she uses it. Also filled her water dish with snow. She has had a nasal infection lately and suddenly become very clingy. She has never been this way before. I think she is on her way over the rainbow bridge. Makes me sad but I know it happens to all of us eventually. I'll make her as comfortable as possible until she goes.

I had her put down yesterday (Wednesday). She clung to me all day. It was difficult. She must have had some pain because she wanted to bury her head. I miss her. I'm sure she's having a great time reuniting with MamaCat and all the rest of the clan plus others who have been told to look for her. sniff.

Critter blogging

These live with my friends Shirley and Peggy. Good folks, all.

The cat doesn't care that I'm in the house.

The dog is interested.

He is rather large.
Dogs are good. Cats are, um, interesting.

Friday cat blogging on Tuesday

PuddyTat is now well enough to join Tim on the cathouse roof for breakfast this morning. Both gals have been very antsy with the wind. They run to the bushes (Mother Nature's litterbox) then run full tilt to either the barn (Tim) or the second story of the cathouse (PT). PT still has a little congestion in her nose but she has far more energy now and comes out of her heated box whenever I open the door. A month ago I wondered if I would lose her. She's a tough old gal.

PuddyTat (left) and Timid are a year apart. They probably had the same father Tancat but different mothers. PT was born in a gopher hole under the carport in 1999. Both love to have their heads scritched but withdraw quickly if my hand strays to where I might pick them up. Tim may remain within sight but PT disappears whenever anyone else is around.

Nocturnal visitor is not a cat

This critter is quite used to me but will amble off if I'm outside. Cleans all the cat dishes. Has a snaggle tooth which is barely visible on the right side in the photo. Sorry but keeping the window clean is impossible.

Spring will come regardless of the weather

It was a bit too early in the morning for these to have opened this morning. They may get their blossoms frozen later in the week. Happy to see them.

Morning on 2.25.13

Fog created frost on the treetops.

Snowflakes look like little "flowers" on the moss.

The daffys are coming despite the temperatures.

Right on schedule

Poinsettias "bloom" around Valentine's Day when left to their own devices. And, yep, here is my elderly friend's first bit of red this year.

Friday cat blogging on Sunday

PuddyTat and Tim have help dealing with the weather. Tim wants a scritch while PT is happy to stay put on her heating pad. At night Tim retreats to her foam in the canoe while Jellico sleeps on the heat.

My poinsettia, my friend

I gave a poinsettia in church at Christmas in memory of my father in 1968. I put it in a large pot by the front door and left it there. My friend Gord drove down from Erie once a month or so for five years to water it when I was at Westminster Choir College in the early 90s. When the house was sided I moved it out to the yard where it stayed all summer. It was very straggly and had filled the entire corner of the room so I couldn't use my front door. Everybody said I should throw it out.

I couldn't. She is part of the family. I cut her way back and brought her back in. She needs a little care at the moment but she is very healthy. And, yes, she does get smallish red bracts beginning around Valentine's Day lasting till summer. This year may be different as I've had the TV on at night which may disrupt the light schedule.

Poinsettias are desert plants and need water only when they get dry. I still have one from Christmas 2011 on my table. Someday I will put it in the big pot. Meanwhile, people, don't water your poinsettias until they ask for it.

The brown mess at the bottom right of the photo is a water plant which is currently covered with moss. You can see a couple of the leaves. My sister-in-law gave it to me many years ago. I need to remove all the moss one of these days.

Weather

Love it when the sun comes up just far enough to illuminate the trees on the island and along the bay.

The frost last night reminded the daylilies that poked up last week in the warmth that it is still winter.

Friday cat blogging on New Years Eve

This is how Tim drinks. Here she has wound around from the kitchen window. If you look carefully you can see foam between her toes. It looks like she has some sort of odd disease. She kneads constantly and tears up every foam pad she gets. I get a new pad for BCF every summer then, when I get home, put it in the canoe for Tim to snuggle up in. And tear up.

Friday cat blogging on Sunday

Evening treats for Jellico and Tim. PuddyTat got hers on the shelf below where she dwells. She doesn't come up top now for some reason. These two do not get along. Shortly after the photo was taken Tim chased Jellico away. He did get to finish his treats first.

Morning vigil after breakfast. Tim rules the roof.
