Friday cat blogging

Little One butts in on Dude's breakfast. Dudie usually yields the food to the kitten. But Little One only wants to eat with Dude. It doesn't matter that there are plenty of other places for her to eat. I stay outside and try to pet her when she invades Dudie's breakfast. She usually runs away while Dude keeps on eating. I did manage a short scritch this morning.

Little One seems to have awakened a bit of the kitten that Jellico hasn't outgrown.

They aren't visible but you can hear the next folks wanting breakfast. As soon as the the cats have gone, the crows and bluejays will descend for the goodies.

A Christian nation?

In a recent NYT opinion piece, Barbara Ehrenreich asks "Is it now a crime to be poor?" Her article is disturbing to me tho obviously not to others.

So many are so desperate to inflict their "Christian" religion on the US. They seem to believe that all will be well if we all share their prejudices. What we do to the least of us, we do to Jesus. Um. By rejecting the poor, aren't we rejecting Jesus?

Duh.

Idiots

On a 68 to 31 vote, the Senate confirmed the appointment of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. The Republicans voting for her were Lamar Alexander, Kit Bond, Susan Collins, Lindsey Graham, Judd Gregg, Richard Lugar, Mel Martinez, Olympia Snowe, George Voinovich. The others handed the Democrats a very good campaign issue among Hispanic voters. Your Republican Senator is prejudiced against you. The dumbest thing is the wasted angst. They knew from the beginning she would be confirmed. So why did they alienate Latinos in a losing effort?

A community gathers again

Father Jake Stops the World is back! Hallelujah!

When "Jake" was chosen to head evangelism efforts in TEC, he deleted his blog and started an official blog. After many petitions to leave it up even if he didn't post, he relented. Now that severe, and somewhat thoughtless, budget cuts at 815 have been implemented, Terry Martin is job hunting. Fortunately he has restarted his blog. It's fun to see the clan gather again in the comments.

Yes, some of us read and comment at Of Course I Could Be Wrong but that is a different sort of blog. Both are valuable.

Ugly Republicans

I hope the people I know who haven't left the Republican Party understand how foolish and stupid they look, and IMO are, given the behavior of those who are doing their best to keep Americans from learning anything intelligent about health care. That goes for my brother and several friends at church. The disruptive people are evil, unAmerican, unChristian, unethical, uncivilized and unbelievably rude. I'm glad I left the party years ago. I'm sad that so many people I thought were intelligent haven't.

Gone

Meadville's Steak 'n Shake is closed. That's not good for the investors but it is definitely good for me. Shakes were waaaay too tempting.

Orchids, I think

I think the white flowers are orchids but I'm not sure. They certainly are spectacular. My sil has a real green thumb.

This is the welcome I received when I arrived at my brother's house around noon today. The red one is Trinka, the b&t is Greta.

Grass!

When Tractor Supply sold me grass seed that was supposed to be quick germinating, they sold the right stuff. As of Tuesday this was very dry, brown dirt and whatever seeds the mourning doves hadn't eaten. We had a lovely all day rain Wednesday and suddenly there were green sprouts yesterday afternoon. We had more rain last night and suddenly I have grass. Wow. It isn't quite ready to mow but it looks wonderful to me.
